Belnet appointed as a mandated organisation of the EOSC Association

Last month, Belnet was appointed as the mandated organisation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Association for Belgium. The aim of EOSC is to create a new European web of data as a means of stimulating interdisciplinary research and thereby boosting science and the economy. Belnet's role within this ambitious project will be a coordinating and operational one.

Building trust to stop phishing

In 2020, there is no need to doubt the threat posed by phishing. We could spend so much time trying to size the risk that phishing poses to our society, our organisations. I am not even sure I could give you an accurate estimation of this risk. There is so much unknown. However, for many of us, being targeted by cyber-attacks using phishing is now part of our typical day, or, at least, a typical week.

Cloud services mitigate data losses in Ukraine

After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the demand for virtual machines by URAN’s user organisations, the Ukrainian NREN, grew exponentially driven by the need to prevent data loss from the possible destruction of the physical infrastructure. Numerous universities were able to take advantage of the free cloud services offered by URAN, but the increased demand led to an unforeseen crisis caused by disk storage overload in the NREN’s data centre.

Belnet renews collaboration agreements with Flemish government and Walloon Region for 15 years

The Flemish government and the Walloon Region recently renewed their collaboration with Belnet. This will allow all recognised Flemish and Walloon universities, colleges and research centres to enjoy high-performance access to the Belnet network at a greatly reduced rate for the next 15 years.
