The Belnet DDoS Mitigation service was extended earlier this year with a new monitoring and reporting tool, DDoS Dashboard and Reporting. This aims to give users a better overview of DDoS attacks as they occur and also allows them to generate their own reports easily.

In a DDoS attack, someone deliberately sends so much data to a particular organisation's network that it becomes overloaded and certain services running on that network, such as the company website, become inaccessible.

From a monthly report to near real-time data

The Belnet DDoS Mitigation solution provided users with a monthly report of historical DDoS attacks. However, we regularly received comments from our customers that when confronted with poor network performance, they were often in the dark about what was causing it. The new add-on DDoS Dashboard and Reporting was intended to change this. By means of all kinds of graphs and curves, users can now follow the activity on their network almost in real time. In the event of a DDoS attack, they will quickly be able to assess the impact and take appropriate action to eliminate the problem as soon as possible. It is also possible to zoom in on certain periods in the past. For the selected period, users get an overview of the total number of dropped packets, which IP addresses and ports were attacked and from which countries.

Validation by means of a Proof of Concept

A Proof of Concept (PoC) was launched in spring 2021 in collaboration with some users of Belnet DDoS Mitigation. They were able to test the new monitoring and reporting tool for several months and provide their feedback. After the conclusion of the PoC a number of proposals for improvement were implemented and the new platform was made available to all Belnet DDos Mitigation customers.

MFA

Access to DDoS Dashboard and Reporting was given additional security with multi-factor authentication. In addition to their username and password, users must enter a Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) generated by an authentication app on their smartphone.

DDoS 2.0

Belnet is currently reviewing the current anti-DDoS solution and will issue new specifications to ensure even better protection of your corporate network in the years to come.
