The Centre for Cyber Security Belgium (CCB) and the Cyber Security Coalition are launching the fifth edition of a big awareness-raising campaign on phishing on 1 October. The campaign will run for the whole month of October and is part of the European cyber security month. Belnet supports the campaign as a partner and wants to encourage you to take part.

This year’s campaign focuses on phishing and aims to encourage internet users to think twice before clicking on a link in a message.

Why does raising awareness about phishing remain so important?

Although many internet users are cautious and often recognise fake messages, too many people still click on malicious links in emails, text messages, and social media, with all the consequences that entails.

This often happens because we click too fast. Therefore, the slogan of the 2019 national awareness-raising campaign is ‘Relax and think twice before clicking on a link’. The campaign thus aims to significantly reduce the number of phishing victims. Have you gotten a suspicious message? Then forward it to suspicious@safeonweb.be.

In 2018, the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium received no less than 648,522 emails via this email address. After an automatic scan of the emails, the CCB succeeded in blocking 15,000 fraudulent websites.

Support the campaign in your organisation!

The awareness-raising campaign focuses on the general public. Students, employees, or seniors, experienced or occasional users: the aim is to teach all internet users how to recognise suspicious messages and what to do with them.

The broader the campaign, the stronger we can arm ourselves against phishing. So we would like to encourage you to make people aware of the campaign within your organisation too!

It’s easy to take part. Contact us and we provide you with the campaign material. In addition to flyers, posters, and banners for your website, intranet, or social media channels, there are also video clips that you can share. The campaign material is available free of charge in Dutch, French, English, and German.
