Belnet will be working on its network from January to mid March 2019

You will receive a detailed schedule for your organisation in due course

Belnet is currently redesigning its network. The aim is to make it even more readable, flexible and solid.

So far, we have increased the capacity in the core of the network through the use of 100G cards. We have also boosted redundancy and convergence on the routers that jointly form the central ring.

What are the following steps in the project?

  • During the week starting on 7 January 2019, we are upgrading the capacity in several Points of Presence (PoPs).
  • From 14 January 2019 onwards, we will start with the actual redesign of the network, i.e. the adaptation of the routing on the backbone. The aim is to make the network more robust and to minimise the consequences of an incident on the fibreglass of our backbone. The migrations shall be done per zone. Depending on the Point(s) of Presence you are connected to, your organisation may fall under one or several zones. In this overview you can see the different zones and their corresponding migration periods. You will receive a detailed schedule for your organisation via the usual channels.
  • The last step will be to uncouple the FedMAN network from the Ciena optical network. As a result, the FedMAN ring will be directly linked to the transit routers. This intervention is scheduled for 1 to 15 March 2019.

Will these works have an impact on my organisation?

We are carefully preparing the migrations so as to ensure that the impact of this redesign exercise is minimised. Nevertheless, connectivity interruptions may occur.
