On Thursday 12 October, we were pleased to welcome some 20 representatives from our FED community (federal organisations) for a comprehensive information session on FedWAN services.
Late last year, the federal government commissioned Belnet to take over full management of the WAN networks for all federal public services. At that time, Belnet had already built up considerable expertise in WAN networks, for example for the SPF Economy and the SPF Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
Total peace of mind
As of January 2023, the project has been officially launched. Along with its partner Telenet Business, Belnet will facilitate WAN connectivity in a phased manner for all federal public services. Meanwhile, the first migrations have been successfully completed.
From the start, Belnet has focused on giving its federal customers total peace of mind by taking over their existing WAN agreements and extending them where necessary. In consultation with the client and taking into account future capacity needs, Belnet will develop a detailed project schedule for each federal organisation to ensure that the handover is as smooth and efficient as possible.
Given the strategic importance of FedWAN and our desire to keep the federal community as well-informed as possible, Belnet hosted an information session in mid-October covering all aspects of the FedWAN programme.
Networking
After a brief introduction, our Programme Manager explained how the FedWAN programme was set up in practice. The entire process was walked through in detail, from quote to cutover. It will take approximately one year per organisation for the process to be completed.
Participants were then able to meet the project team from Belnet and its partner Telenet Business. Next, one of our network engineers explained the technical details of the WAN networks in more detail.
Finally, our Community Director explained the financial component and the grant transfer. Afterwards, there was ample opportunity to ask questions and network.
