At the request of the R&E community, Belnet will set up a DataCite Consortium Belgium begin 2024, a central research dataset registration service allowing Belgian research organisations to register Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for scientific resources.

The advantage for the R&E institutions is that they pay an annual membership fee of 500 EURO via the Belnet consortium instead of 2000 EURO when becoming a direct member of DataCite.
In any case, each research organisation still pays an organisation fee of 500 EURO per year and a small fee per requested DOI. Also see: DataCite service fees.
The Consortium must consist of at least five organisations by the end of the first year. We already have a commitment from 4 universities, so we would like to find out whether there is more interest in participating.
If you are already a direct member of DataCite, you can terminate your membership at the end of the calendar year with a notice period of 2 months (or no later than October 31).
